Answers to your questions

Here are some of the audience questions in a more accessible form.

General Advice

As private schools are independent, you must apply through their website directly. All private schools accept applications from parents, without the need of an agent or an intermediary.

Many believe relying on multiple choice question style papers and practice worksheets due to their prevalence in grammar school selection exams.

However, we have seen time and time again the children who practise with long form question styles often tend to have an easier time with more difficult papers.

The long form style allows children to think independently without prompts, as given to them in multiple choice questions.

That being said, do ensure to keep using multiple choice question styles to practise as well. Diversity can only help.

You will hear many fear stories from well-wishers, tutors, and other parents. One of the more common stories that circulate every year is the “golden child” who somehow manages to sit down when told and completes 6 papers every day, and consistently scores above 90%.

This is simply untrue.

Please try not compare your children to others. We understand you, as parents, may be anxious and fearful. However it is easy for your children to pick up on that and for it to affect their preparation.

We absolutely do!

We offer Mathematics and English group lessons for Year 4 students.

Our classes are limited to 20 students to ensure all children have adequate attention.

Solo Lessons

We do offer solo lessons in both 1 hour and 1.5 hour slots. We treat solo lessons as the time to reinforce knowledge.

Due to copyright laws, we cannot distribute papers and worksheets, which aren’t made by us, to students. As a result, we ask parents to use practice papers they might have acquired from reputable books stores.

Students are expected to complete as many questions as they can before solo lessons. We aim to maximise as much of the student’s lesson time as possible and to that end, we recommend doing questions outside of lesson time.

Group Lessons

After the conclusion of our theory phase, we will be moving on to our practical phase.

During this phase of our group lessons, we will be going through practice papers and sample questions. This is to benefit your children in two ways: to put their theoretical knowledge through active learning and to teach them exam technique.

We do not insist that children require any particular materials for our lessons.

However the students would benefit from attempting questions, as they would in exams. To that end, we will be making our papers available in our store.

For English, we will be focussing on Junior English 4 by Hadyn Richards. Most good bookstores should hold a copy. The students will be asked to read the passage before the lesson to familarise themselves with the content.

Unfortunately, we are unable to assess individual capabilities in essay writing. We cannot go through everyone’s individual essays as that would not be on the other children. However we will be going through model essays to understand what children should be aiming for. We will also be going through lower level essays to help children understand how to improve their own techniques.

We are more than happy to assess your child’s essay writing abilities in solo lessons. You can book a lesson here.

We will be giving assignments during our practical phase. The assignments will be a continuation of the work done during the class.

However due to the group nature of the class, we will not be able to mark everyone’s work individually. Our worksheets and papers do come with mark schemes and we encourage parents to make sure the assignments are marked.

We will then go through the assignment in the following class in order to address any questions children may have.

Mock Exams

Our Mock Exam Course will run from Monday 25th July – Friday 2nd September 2022.

The Revision lessons will run through the tests assigned for that day.

As there are two papers everyday, we will be taking 2 hours instead of the usual 1.5 hours. The classes will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and cost £10 per lesson.

As usual, you do not have to book all the lessons. We understand children will have other commitments and we will be making all our lessons available on our platform: Kvasir+.

Absolutely not.

Please do what’s best for your child and your family situation. Our lessons will be recorded to view on our platform if you cannot attend our lessons.

The Mock Exam course will be entirely online and the children can take their exams at any point. However we do stress that children space out their attempts to ensure they don’t overexert themselves.

All our Mock Tests will be automatically marked. Parents will also be able to see how their children have scored.

All our revision lesson will be recorded and be included in all of our Kvasir+ subscription plans.

We will not be handing out the papers from our revision lessons as that will be unfair to the children who attended the Mock Exam course.

Fortunately, PDF versions of all our tests will be available for purchase in our store.

We are currently taking care to ensure your children and our students will have as realistic experience as possible and so we aren’t accepting sign ups just yet.
